HAMMOND HAMMERS TASCI IN FIVE

LEE'S BOXING DIGEST / PEEP MAGAZINE 2012 Olympian Cameron Hammond stretched his unbeaten pro record to 13-0 and retained his WBA Oceania welterweight title with a blistering fifth round TKO of Sedat Tasci in Narrabri, New South Wales on Saturday night. Hammond started off by controlling the action behind his jab before stepping things up in the third. By the fourth Tasci, who is also a former Olympian, was getting frustrated and had to be warned on two occasions for rabbit punching. Rather than discourage him, the infringements appeared to spur Cameron on and he began loading up with his right hand. In the fifth, Hammond backed Tasci to the ropes and threw a double jab followed by a right cross that landed flush on the Turk's chin and sent him to the canvas. The fight could have ended there and then as Tasci was clearly stunned, but he bravely managed to beat referee Ray Wheatley's count. Sensing a finish, Hammond moved into range and unleashed ...

KHAN STATEMENT ON MAYWEATHER-BERTO ANNOUNCEMENT

LEE'S BOXING DIGEST / PEEP MAGAZINE BOLTON (5 August) - Following the official announcement of Floyd Mayweather vs Andre Berto and to deal with a number of interview requests for comment which have come through Amir Khan has released the following statement:  “I’m disappointed not to have got the fight for what is the third time after having been one of the frontrunners. However, there are many big fights out there for me and I’m going to continue working hard to establish myself at the top of the welterweight division. Floyd Mayweather has fought the biggest names throughout his career and has earned the right to face whoever he chooses. I wish my stablemate Andre Berto and trainer Virgil Hunter the very best of luck in the fight. I have seen how hard Andre trains and works and know that he is ready to give Floyd a very tough night.” - Amir Khan

LUCAS BROWNE: NOBODY WANTS TO SEE WILDER V ARREOLA

LEE'S BOXING DIGEST / PEEP MAGAZINE LUCAS "BIG DADDY" BROWNE believes a fight between Deontay Wilder and Chris Arreola would be bad for heavyweight boxing. Browne is set to face Argentina's Gonzalo Basile in Melbourne next month and will turn his attention to his mandatory shot at WBA champion Ruslan Chagaev afterwards. But he's hopeful of getting Wilder in the ring before the end of the year and feels it will be a barnburner with potentially two belts on the line. Wilder is expected to defend his WBC crown against fellow American Chris Arreola in the winter. Browne, however, believes the match-up would do little for the Alabama –native's reputation and he should instead give fans the fight they really want to see. "Nobody wants to watch Wilder v Arreola," Lucas said. "Even if they were giving tickets away, hardly anyone would turn up. "Wilder is the first American heavyweight champion in years and what people really...

BROWNE RELINQUISHES COMMONWEALTH CROWN

AUSTRALIA'S Lucas "Big Daddy" Browne has relinquished his Commonwealth heavyweight title with immediate effect. Browne became the first fighter from Down Under to hold the crown in 122 years when he stopped Canada's Eric Bahoeli in April 2014. But he has now decided to give it up in order to pursue other titles. "Holding the Commonwealth title was a huge honour for me and I do not relinquish the belt easily," Browne said. "However, I'm currently the mandatory challenger to Ruslan Chagaev's WBA heavyweight title and that is now my focus. "I am on the verge of becoming Australia's first ever heavyweight world champion and I cannot wait to win that in the near future". Browne's manager Matt Clark continued: "Lucas has accomplished something that will go down in Australian boxing folklore. We are relinquishing the title to keep it active and allow "Big Daddy" to focus on securing the...
After overseeing Jamie McDonnell’s Texas triumph back in May, Dave Coldwell is ready to plot Doncaster’s unlikely hero’s next move with a voyage over familiar waters a serious option. Tomoki Kameda has been earmarked as a likely opponent as he guns for revenge over McDonnell following his shocking loss to the Englishman back in spring. Coldwell holds no fears over that fight following the deserved victory last time out and he’s planning to do a similar job if the rematch occurs. “The main option for us right now is a rematch with Kameda and the chance to prove that the first fight was no fluke,” revealed Coldwell. “We hold no fears at all about tackling Kameda again and this time around I d go as far as saying that we’re in a more confident mood. Jamie was a huge underdog last time and he wasn’t quite sure what to expect but we got everything right in the last few weeks and Jamie’s hard work and desire was rewarded. We know what’s awaiting us this time around and the result will be...

LETTER TO JON JONES FROM KEN SHAMROCK !

Hey Stu, Just wanted to let you know that Ken Shamrock just now posted an open letter to Jon Jones. Out of courtesy, I wanted you to be be one of the first to know. From: Des Woodruff --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Jon: Few others can understand the enticement of the lust of life when the world says “yes” to your every desire. At these times, anything you want is at your fingertips: free meals, expensive gifts, amazing opportunities, big sponsorships, money, girls, and just about every desire being met on demand. One day, everything changes. Speaking from experience, the decisions we make eventually catches up to us. These consequences, from the seeds that we have sown, are very real and seldom easy to deal with. Fame is often a road paved with heartbreak. It’s a black hole that has the ability to engulf a distracted soul. Unfortunately, you must sleep in the bed that you made. You did this to yourse...
