CAMERON HAMMOND is in a hurry to get his hands on the Commonwealth welterweight crown. The Indigenous Moree hitter, 13-0 (7 KOs), represented Australia at the Commonwealth Games as an amateur before going on to star at the London Olympics in 2012 and wants to become the 53 nation alliance's champion as a pro. Hammond won an eliminator for the belt currently held by England's Sam Eggington when he halted Jese Ravudi in May. And he warms up for the challenge when he meets Thai southpaw Denkamon Pakdee Gym at Alexandria Basketball Stadium in Perry Park, New South Wales this Saturday night ( October 3 ). He said: "I travelled all over the world as an amateur and I don't mind getting my passport stamped again to fight for the Commonwealth belt. ...

Waleed Din says he will settle a score with Thomas Essomba when the pair meet for the vacant Commonwealth flyweight title on October 17, live on Spike TV (Channels: Sky 160, Freeview 31, Talk Talk 31, Freesat 141, BT TV 31). Taking place at Rotherham’s Magna Centre, Din says there won’t be a repeat result this time after Essomba picked up a controversial decision over the Sheffield starlet in the amateurs. “We boxed in the 2014 senior ABAs,” explained Din, “and he got a disputed split decision win over me. He's very experienced, has been to the Olympics twice so he's got good pedigree, but that's in the amateurs and over the three round distance. Now we're in the pro game, over 12 rounds, and I’ll beat him in every aspect.” Din, 22, could be the UK’s next big boxing sens...

Relikh is already ranked number ten in the world by the WBA thanks to an unbeaten run consisting of 19 fights with 17 knockouts, and could move into the top five with a stellar showing against Lopez. Glenn Foot came through an all action classic against fellow Sunderland boxer, Kirk Goodings in what was an electric atmosphere at The Lancastrian Suite, Dunston. Phil Jeffries' latest promotion was always going to be a sell out, especially after the bout between the Wearside pair was added. Both men were coming off the back of a defeat and it was Foot who called out the region's local fighters at welterweight and Goodings duly answered the call, stepping up two weights for the bout. As soon as the fight was added to the 'Impact: Fighters Will Fall' show, the whole region's boxing community was on red alert. There have been some big local derby match ups in recent times but this was surely the most hotly anticipated. Foot started off well from the opening bell, using an educated jab to pressure Goodings and it wasn't long before he started landing solid right hands. As the first round progressed, Goodings began to get into things and the touch paper w...

With the new boxing season back in full swing, Dave Coldwell is a figure within the fight scene who has sported a wide grin since things kicked off again at the month’s start. Residing in Texas for a number of weeks ahead of Jamie McDonnell’s brilliant win over Japanese superstar, Tomoki Kameda, Coldwell was reduced to watching his cruiserweight charge, Tony Bellew, stay busy via a television screen as the Liverpool man halted Arturs Kulikauskis in five rounds in Leeds. Coldwell handed corner duty to Tony Sims for one night only and he was pleased that his man was able to get the win. “It was a bit of a last minute job in terms of opponent and watching the fight you could see he was desperate to survive from the moment the first bell went and it was a just a case of Tony chopping away and taking his opponents legs away from him. We’re after big fights in the cruiserweight division and there’s a number of exciting opportunities for Tony that can be sorted out imminently but the most...

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney says his club wouldn’t be best pleased if the former amateur boxer was to lace up the gloves again. The 29-year-old was speaking exclusively to boxing channel BoxNation ahead of his friend and fellow Liverpudlian Liam Smith’s world title showdown next month against John Thompson. The super-welterweight ace is taking on the American Thompson at the Manchester Arena on October 10th , with England’s all-time leading goalscorer recalling his fighting days and saying the Old Trafford club wouldn’t be too happy if he was to return to the ring. “My uncle runs a gym in Liverpool I used to go there from the age of 9 until I was 15. It was great, I really enjoyed it, but Everton made me stop and I had to choose between boxing and football but I think I made the right decision,” Rooney told BoxNation. “I used to go round to different gyms sparring which I really liked. It was quite easy in the end to choose football becau...

With plastic surgery to repair his badly damaged eyes scheduled for tomorrow in Mexico, and his entire boxing career in jeopardy, featherweight contender Jorge "Pilon" Lara (27-0, 19 KOs) says the opponent that caused the damage, Puerto Rico's Jesus Rojas, should be banned permanently from boxing. 24-year-old Lara took on Rojas last Tuesday (September 8) in the co-feature of a Fox Sports 1-televised night of PBC Boxing from the Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, California, and was forced to settle for a six-round technical draw after repeated headbutts from Rojas tore deep cuts over both his eyes. Lara suffered a bad cut on his left eye in round three and his right in round five. At the conclusion of round six, he indicated to referee Jack Reiss he was no longer able to see. Under California rules, the fight went to the scorecards and was declared a draw when all three judges turned in scores of 57-57. "He doesn't deserve an opportunit...
